Check Battery Health on Android

How to Check Battery Health on Android: A Simple Guide for Everyone

Does your Android phone die faster than it used to? That's not just in your head — batteries wear out over time. The good news is you don't need to be a tech expert to check your battery's health. This guide walks you through it in plain English.

Why Battery Health Matters

Every phone battery has a limited number of charge cycles. As your phone gets older, its battery holds less charge than when it was new. Checking battery health helps you know:

  1. If your battery is still in good shape
  2. Whether it's time to replace it
  3. How to avoid a phone that shuts off unexpectedly

Method 1: Use Your Phone's Built-In Settings

Many newer Android phones now include a battery health feature right in the Settings app.

  1. Open Settings on your phone.
  2. Tap Battery (sometimes called Battery and Device Care).
  3. Look for Battery Health, Diagnostics, or Battery Information.
  4. If available, you'll see your battery's current capacity compared to when it was new, shown as a percentage.

Note: Not all Android phones show this by default. Samsung, some Pixel, and a few other brands include it, but many others don't.

Method 2: Use the Phone's Dial Pad Codes

Some Android manufacturers hide diagnostic menus behind secret codes. Open your Phone app and dial

  1. *#*#4636#*#* - Opens a hidden menu with battery information on many Android phones.

If the code works, tap Battery Information to see details like battery health, temperature, and voltage.

Note: This code doesn't work on every device, and some manufacturers have removed it in recent updates.

Method 3: Use a Battery Health App

If your phone doesn't have a built-in option, a free app can help. Some popular, well-reviewed choices include:

  1. AccuBattery
  2. Battery Guru
  3. CPU-Z (also shows some battery data)

Simply download one from the Google Play Store, open it, and look for a section labeled "battery health" or "battery wear."

These apps estimate your battery's health by tracking charging patterns over time, so give it a few days of normal use before checking the results.

What the Numbers Mean

Most battery health readings are shown as a percentage of the original capacity:

  1. 90–100% : Excellent, your battery is in great shape.
  2. 80–89% : Good, still reliable for daily use.
  3. 70–79% : Fair, you may notice faster battery drain.
  4. Below 70% : Consider replacing the battery soon.

Simple Tips to Keep Your Battery Healthy

  1. Avoid letting your phone battery drop to 0% often.
  2. Try to keep your charge between 20% and 80% when possible.
  3. Don't leave your phone in very hot places, like a car dashboard.
  4. Use the charger that came with your phone or a certified one.
  5. Turn on any "battery care" or "optimized charging" features your phone offers.

Checking your Android battery health only takes a few minutes, and it's a great habit to build. Whether you use your phone's built-in settings, a dial code, or a free app, you'll get a clear picture of how your battery is holding up and know when it might be time for a replacement.
