Vijay Deverakonda has attracted attention for taking a clear stand on movie ticket prices. The Telugu actor has said that he does not want ticket-price hikes for his films, bringing the issue of affordable cinema back into the spotlight.
His comments came during promotional activities for his period action drama Ranabaali, which also stars Rashmika Mandanna. According to reports published in October 2026, the actor wants more people to enjoy his films in theatres without having to pay extra because of special ticket-price increases.
Vijay's position comes from a personal experience dating back to his college days. He recalled wanting to watch a film in IMAX when tickets cost around ₹80. Since he had limited money, he would save the ₹10 he received for snacks and even reduce his transportation expenses to afford the movie experience.
He explained that he felt disappointed when ticket prices increased from ₹80 to ₹100. Although he acknowledged that he did not fully understand the economics behind such decisions at the time, the experience left a lasting impression on him.
That memory, he said, influenced his decision to oppose ticket-price hikes for his own films.
Vijay stated that Ranabaali would be released without a special ticket-price increase. He also said that he had communicated his preference to the producers and team members working on his upcoming projects.
The actor's reasoning is straightforward: he wants more people to watch his films in theatres. Rather than relying on higher ticket prices, he expressed confidence that the film could recover its investment by attracting a larger audience.
He has also indicated that he intends to discuss ticket pricing with producers before committing to future projects.
Interestingly, Vijay mentioned one possible exception to his position.
He said that a ticket-price hike might be an exception if he works with acclaimed filmmaker SS Rajamouli. The comment attracted attention because Rajamouli is known for large-scale productions and major theatrical releases.
However, Vijay's statement should not be interpreted as confirmation of a ticket-price increase for any specific future film with Rajamouli. It was a remark about a hypothetical collaboration.
Ticket pricing is a recurring discussion in the Indian film industry, particularly around big-budget releases. Producers may argue that higher production costs and commercial risks justify premium pricing, while moviegoers often want affordable access to theatrical entertainment.
Vijay's comments highlight this tension between box-office economics and audience accessibility.
A higher ticket price can increase revenue per ticket, but affordability can also influence how many people choose to watch a film in cinemas. The commercial outcome depends on several factors, including audience demand, production costs, distribution arrangements and the film's overall performance.
His approach places greater emphasis on attracting a broad audience rather than increasing the price paid by each individual viewer.
Vijay Deverakonda's comments have added another perspective to the ongoing conversation about movie ticket prices in India. Whether other actors and production houses adopt similar approaches remains to be seen.
For now, his position is clear: he wants his films to remain accessible to audiences, provided the final decision remains within his control.
The larger question is whether affordable ticket pricing can become a more common strategy for major theatrical releases or whether rising production costs will continue to push the industry towards premium pricing.
