west bengal student credit card loan

The West Bengal Student Credit Card (WBSCC) is a government-backed education loan scheme designed to help students finance higher education without the need for traditional collateral security. Students can obtain a loan of up to ₹10 lakh at a nominal 4% simple annual interest rate, subject to the scheme and bank's applicable conditions.

West Bengal Student Credit Card: Key Details

  1. Maximum loan: ₹10 lakh
  2. Interest rate: 4% simple interest per annum after applicable interest subvention
  3. Repayment period: Up to 15 years, including the applicable moratorium/repayment holiday
  4. Collateral: Loans up to ₹10 lakh are offered without collateral security under the scheme
  5. Minimum educational qualification: Class IX passed, according to the current WBSCC FAQ
  6. Age limit: Generally up to 40 years at the time of application
  7. Purpose: Financing eligible education and vocational courses at recognised institutions.

Who Is Eligible?

A student generally needs to satisfy the following conditions:

  1. The student should be a resident of West Bengal and meet the scheme's residence requirement.
  2. The student must have passed at least Class IX from a recognised board active in West Bengal.
  3. The student must be enrolled or admitted to an eligible course/institution.
  4. The applicant should generally be 40 years or younger when applying.
  5. The course and institution must fall within the categories covered by WBSCC.

The official FAQ should be checked before applying because eligibility can depend on the particular course, institution and applicant circumstances.

How Much Loan Can You Get?

Under WBSCC, the maximum available loan is ₹10,00,000. The actual sanctioned amount is not automatically ₹10 lakh; it depends on the eligible educational expenses and the bank's assessment.

The scheme can support expenses connected with education, subject to the applicable rules and approval.

Interest Rate

The scheme provides an effective interest rate of 4% per annum simple interest after applicable interest subvention. This is one of the major attractions of the Student Credit Card compared with many conventional education loans.

Students should nevertheless check the sanction terms supplied by the participating bank before accepting the loan.

Repayment Period

The repayment period can extend up to 15 years, including the applicable moratorium/repayment holiday. This gives students a relatively long period to repay the education loan after completing their studies.

Important Note

There are older online articles that describe the scheme differently for example, some state Class X as the minimum qualification. The current official WBSCC FAQ says Class IX passed, so applicants should rely on the official portal and latest scheme documents rather than older third-party articles.
